Families and Business – how to mix the two and still get along!
There is nothing richer than a family that works together to build a successful business. Family businesses have an advantage: customers prefer them. They also provide a unique experience for mothers and fathers to work with children, for siblings to work as a team, and for extended families to share a purpose and mission beyond family life.
As we read all too frequently, family businesses can also tear a family apart. Frequent stories about a cousin changing the locks on a cousin or siblings who never speak again in their lives clearly show the downside of family business.
I have worked with many family businesses to forge consensus amid difficult circumstances. I take pride in the fact that I have not only helped keep businesses together, but I have helped keep families together, too.
Following are some of the family business services that I provide:
- Sale or transfer of a business from one generation to the next;
- Structuring a family member’s entrance in or exit from the business;
- Interventions to address serious issues threatening the business and the family;
- Guidance for balancing family and work life.
